Planning Analytics Resources

Overview

Cognos Planning Analytics (PA) is an applications system used for enterprise wide planning, budgeting and forecasting.  Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) provides access to Planning Analytics which is compatible with Chrome, Edge and Firefox web browsers.  Contact Office of Planning and Budgets if issues arise using Internet Explorer.

Acquiring Access

  • Planning Analytics Access (PDF) - Step by step guide to requesting Planning Analytics access.  User access is assigned based on security roles granted by Security Contacts within D6501 Web Security System or submitting an Access Request Memo (ARM) form.  
  • User Security Roles (PDF) - Explanation of various types of security access roles assigned within Planning Analytics applications.  
  • Logging into Planning Analytics - Sign into EBS Portal at http://ebs.msu.edu using MSU NetID and password.  Select "Planning & Budgets" tile to launch the application. 

Introduction to Planning Analytics

  • Glossary (PDF) – A listing of commonly used terms and abbreviations, and their descriptions.
  • Basic User Interface (PDF) – User guide that provides basic information on viewing, entering, editing, approving and submitting data in Planning Analytics.
  • Cognos PA Data Flow Diagram (PDF) - Cognos Planning Analytics houses multiple applications that are used for the development of General Fund - Unit Budget Planning. The Data Flow Diagram exhibits interactions and data flow between these applications.
  • OPB Resource Contacts (PDF) – Contact information for questions related to Planning Analytics applications, Budget Allocations and Funding, and Training Resources posted on OPB website.
