Data Sources for the MSU Community

To fulfill the needs of campus data users, Institutional Studies creates and administers several database systems and supporting reports for your use.  If you have questions about any of our systems, please don't hesitate to contact us.  If you would like to request access to one of these systems, please utilize the appropriate Access Request Memorandum (ARM) form.

Persistence, Attrition and Graduation Reports (PAG)

Persistence and graduation rates and time to degree for 15 most recent cohorts. These data may be disaggregated by demographic variables, college, and entering or graduating major. These data are available through Cognos in both report and dashboard format. Requests for additional reports should be directed to OPB.

Course Enrollment and Outcomes (CEO)

Enrollment and course outcomes reports, including the Drop Fail Withdraw, Grading Practices, and other reports.   These data are available through Cognos. Requests for additional reports should be directed to OPB.

Undergraduate Major Migration

Interactive display showing student transitions by major and cohort year first time students. Data available for both entering and graduating college. End user may select to start with first or last college by major, for cohorts entering 2005 onward.  Note:  MSU NetID and password required to view data.

Course Load, Instruction, Funding, and Modeling System (CLIFMS)

CLIFMS is a dynamic, longitudinal data base which links course and instructor characteristics; stores faculty and graduate assistant effort distribution data, professional accomplishments data; and classifies courses and sections by method of instructional delivery. CLIFMS data is entered via the Web, and the data is stored in tables on the MSUData server. CLIFMS Business Intelligence (BI) reports are now available via Cognos as well.

Academic Analytics

Academic Analytics is a subscription-based online database containing comparative faculty productivity data on academic departments and Ph.D. programs nationwide. The data are structured to enable comparisons at a discipline-by-discipline level as well as overall university performance. Data are collected in six areas of research activity: journal articles, conference proceedings, citations, federal grants, books, and honorific awards.

Transfer Students Report, January, 2017

A report on Transfer students with comparisons with First-Time students in characteristics such as demographics, financial assistance and need and previous entity, as well as persistence and graduation information by major college, and graduation rates.
